Part 1 - Mod Battles
Mod battles are the key to unlocking Mod Challenges, and we will get into that next, but for now this is what you need to know about mod battles:
There are 8 levels of mod battles, and each level has 7 individual battles. One battle for each shape, and the 7th battle can give you any shape. You are guaranteed a mk1 mod of that shape on your first completion, and have a chance to get mk1 or mk2 mods of the corresponding shape every time you complete a battle.
The designation mk1, mk2, mk3, etc. refers to the dots at the top of the mod. The higher the dots, the better the mod. More on that later.
These must be unlocked in order just like any other table.
Each level of of mod battles, 1-8, also give different set bonuses:
Level 1 - health mod set
Level 2 - defense mod sets
Level 3 - critical damage mod sets
Level 4 - critical chance mod sets
Level 5 - tenacity mod sets
Level 6 - offense mod setsLevel
Level 7 - speed mod sets
Level 8 - potency mod sets
You can tell the set by the shape in the center of the mod. When you put more than one mod of the same type together in "sets", you get an additional bonus. We will get into this in more depth later.
Mod battles only drop mk1 and mk2 mods, which aren't really great. The reason to do the mod battles is to unlock mod challenges where you have a chance to get better mk3, mk4, and mk5 mods.
Once you have completed level 3 of the mod battles, it unlocks Mod Challenges. You will then have access to the first three mod challenges. You may or may not want to stop doing mod battles once you unlock mod challenges. If you don't have the toons to complete the other mod challenges, there really isn't a point to unlocking them, you might be better served to farm the challenges you do have unlocked. Also, you may need to complete a couple mod battle levels to get to the mod challenge you want to do.
Part 2 - Mod Challenges
Mod challenges are where you will get the best mods. There are 8 different challenges that each require a different faction to complete and drop different mod sets:
1. Health Challenge drops Health mod sets and has no faction requirement, can be completed with any team with enough stars.
2. Defense Challenge drops Defense mod sets and requires Jedi
3. Critical Damage Challenge drops Critical Damage mod sets and requires Jawa
4. Critical Chance Challenge drops Critical Chance mod sets and requires Scoundrels
5. Tenacity Challenge drops Tenacity mod sets and requires Rebels
6. Offense Challenge drops Offense mod sets and requires First Order
7. Speed Challenge drops Speed mod sets and requires Resistance
8. Potency Challenge drops Potency mod sets and requires Empire
Each challenge also has three different tiers:
Tier 1 requires three 3* characters of that faction and has a chance to drop mk3 mods.
Tier 2 requires four 4* characters of that faction and has a chance to drop mk4 mods.
Tier 3 requires five 5* characters of that faction and has chance to drop mk5 mods.
Challenges are tough, you can't throw low level, low gear toons in and hope to complete the higher tiers. They cost cantina energy which is a very valuable resource, so it is important to not fail challenges over and over. Make sure you are confident in your team before attempting a new tier of challenges.
Mk5 mods are the best currently available, and they can only be farmed from tier 3 challenges. Starting out, you may not have enough toons of each faction to do those challenges. You should have enough toons to do the tier 3 Health Challenge and will be able to farm mk5 mods from there. We will get more in depth into mods and why mk5 is better than mk1 in the next section.
